A magical moment on the eve of the Air Show occurred as Harry Hannah, WWII Spitfire pilot, took to the skies in the Tiger Moth and relived the glory of flight.
Vintage Wings was, once again, blessed to be in the presence of our fine veterans, the people we so proudly commemorate for the sacrifices they made during the war years. Harry's story is one of courage and determination for he spent two years in a POW camp of which one year was spent in solitary confinement. He endured and humbly he continues through life enjoying all its simple pleasures. He is a man of strength and stamina but on Friday evening, the night before the big show, Harry was like a small boy eager to fly as though it were for the first time.
As he climbed aboard the Tiger Moth, the sun sparkling in his eyes, one could not help but notice the subtle grin shine across his face. This moment was his; a moment he patiently waited for after many many years. And Vintage Wings staff, members and volunteers witnessed the magic unfold, captured in stunning images by Richard Mallory Allnutt.
